June 23, 2005 (Ottawa) – The Ottawa International Airport Authority is pleased to congratulate John Spinks, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development on his election to the position of Chairman of the Ottawa Tourism and Convention Authority (OTCA) earlier today.

John has been a member of the Board of Directors of OTCA since 1999, and a member of its Management Committee since 2000. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, including more than 30 years of management and marketing experience in both the private and public sectors, the last 20 of which have been spent in various airport and aviation related positions.

“John has always been a strong promoter of Ottawa and the National Capital Region as a travel destination on both a professional and a personal level and will take on his new role with that same level of enthusiasm” said Paul Benoit, Airport Authority President and CEO. He added “the Authority understands that OTCA plays a pivotal role in the development of the tourism and hospitality markets in Ottawa, which in turn impacts the growth of the airport and accordingly will support and encourage John’s efforts during his term as Chairman”.

During his chairmanship, John will continue in his capacity as Vice President Marketing and Business Development for the Airport Authority, a position he has held since February of 1999. His role includes strategic planning, air service development, commercial real estate and concession development, airport marketing and other initiatives that generate new revenues for the airport and help to promote it.


OIAA operates Ottawa International Airport without government subsidies under a 60-year lease transfer agreement with Transport Canada. The OIAA’s mandate is to manage, operate and develop airport facilities and lands in support of the economic growth of the National Capital Region. Its new state-of-the-art passenger terminal building opened for business on October 12, 2003.
