The Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport Authority and Days Inns - Canada today announced the construction of a new Hotel on Airport lands next summer. The Days Inn - Ottawa Airport, to be inaugurated in the Fall of 2000, will be built at a cost of over $5 million, beginning this Spring.

The Hotel will offer 85 rooms, some designed to suit business travellers while others will be customized for families. It will also include a number of executive suites, featuring fireplace and jacuzzi as well as a restaurant, indoor swimming pool, exercise room, meeting facilities, express Internet access and a business centre.

Mr. Paul Benoit, President and CEO of Ottawa International Airport, said: "Our region has needed an airport-based hotel for over a decade. The Airport Authority and our partner, Days Inns - Canada, are pleased to introduce this service to our community.

"With this new hotel, on-going and recently completed construction projects on airport lands now total almost $50 million. This level of activity ranks the Airport as the premier regional economic centre."

"We are extremely pleased to offer Ottawa International Airport’s customers and the advanced technology community in the area convenient access to first-rate accommodations, says Mr. Irwin Prince, President and COO, Realstar Hotel Services Corp. and master franchisor for the Days Inn brand in Canada. "Demand is now strong for superior airport-based lodging. Considering the rate at which Ottawa is growing, we have planned an expansion for 2001."

Located on Hunt Club Road at the corner of Bowesville Road (Royal Route), the Days Inn - Ottawa Airport incorporates plans for a future expansion, doubling the number of rooms to 170. Once in operation next Fall, the hotel will employ approximately 25 full-time employees.

Project Architects are Richard Wengle Architect, Inc. This project is made possible by Prudential Maximum Realty, The Mortgage Centre and CS CO-OP.

Days Inn is the world's largest franchised hotel chain with over 1,800 properties and more than 160,000 rooms. There are 68 independently owned and operated Days Inn locations in Canada, and the Realstar Group, master franchisor in Canada, plans to increase the number of Days Inn locations to 120 in the next four years. The chain was founded by Cecil B. Day in 1970 with the opening of the first Days Inn hotel in Savannah Beach, GA. At the heart of the growth is the original commitment to value begun by Mr. Day: quality lodging at a fair price. Days Inns of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE:CD).
